So, while in my non-running break I need to keep the kcals a-burning, and after a rest day yesterday I was keen to get straight back to the gym this morning. Today I started off thinking I would do some high-rep, low-weight work, but as I hadn't planned the workout out, and I have the attention span of a flea, it evolved slightly differently as it went along.
Regardless, I got a nice 400-rep workout completed within an hour (which includes the warm-up and some light stretching too, as always). Today's workout:
1) 5 mins cross-trainer warm-up
2) Leg press (machine) - 60kgs x 50
3) Calf raises x 25
4) Repeat 2 & 3
5) Assisted overhand chin-ups - 17kg resistance - x 30
6) Side steps off a knee-high step, x 10 each side
7) Assisted overhand chin-ups - 22kg resistance - x 20
8) Side steps off a knee-high step, x 10 each side
9) Assisted overhand chin-ups - 27kg resistance - x 15
10) Side steps off a knee-high step, x 10 each side
11) Assisted overhand chin-ups - 32kg resistance - x 5
12) Side steps off a knee-high step, x 10 each side
13) Leg extension (machine) - 25kgs x 30
14) Lunges holding 2 x 5kg dumbbells x 10 each side
15) Repeat 13 & 14
The 32kg resistance chin-ups were really tough - I am determined to train myself to do bodyweight chin-ups eventually - this set of 5 were still done with a 50kg assist!! Yet another reason to lose weight! Not sure the last time I did lunges BY CHOICE in a workout, hahahaha - but today I did them in front of one of the mirrored walls and noticed I was doing them with reasonably good form, which was really gratifying, because if you saw me trying to learn lunges for the first time a couple of years back, you would probably wet yourself laughing. Balance is not my strong point.... ;)
