Gym this morning, and an unplanned workout that was probably a bit random, but included some good work. I struggled to run on the treadmill, so went for incline brisk walking instead, then to build my confidence a little I also did some work with kettlebells and suchlike. It was an hour that involved a nice mix of upper and lower body, without overly pushing anything. I'm easing myself into the year - nothing too crazy just now. :-)
Today I spent some time on writing up my paper training journal and paper food diary for yesterday and today; I realised this evening that one of the things I really struggled with last year is loneliness and how I feel by myself on an evening, and I know that keeping myself busy or distracted is hugely beneficial for me. When I sit and mope, I'm also likely to overeat and fall foul of emotional eating, and also moping leads to more days of feeling low, and everything spirals - so, evenings are going to be something I need to work hard on, this year. I think finding books to really pull me into the storyline or subject matter, or using evenings to prepare and cook meals for subsequent days, etc, might be a good start - things that keep my mind busy, rather than my usual staring-at-the-internet while crap telly is on in the background!! This year is all about taking forward all the lessons I've learned about myself over the 5 years I've been on my weightloss journey so far, and putting everything together to a successful conclusion. Writing everything down, and being mindful about decisions and actions, is really going to help. It's quite a micro-managing way to live, but for this year I think it's vital. I'm still feeling really positive about it.
Dinner today was grilled salmon with boiled new potatoes and brussel sprouts, and was delicious - really simple, and no "sauce" required, though I did drizzle a small amount of extra virgin olive oil over the potatoes. I think a great idea for some of these quiet evenings on my own is an old "game" I used to play years ago when I was successfully losing weight through diet alone (so unsurprisingly it all went back on) - from my "celeb chef" cookbooks, pick out recipes that sound delicious and work out what changes I can make to the ingredients or cooking methods, to make them affordable and healthy!! ;-) If I start doing this, I'll be sure to let you know about my recipe tweak successes, as well as the terrible kitchen failures, lol.
