Just when I was getting somewhere...

My weekend exercise has very definitely not gone to plan. I shouldn't have done such an intense gym workout on Friday, because the DOMS has been tough for the whole weekend. Saturday morning was an indoor climbing session, and due to a combination of things (aching everywhere, confidence shot because it was ages since my last climb, self-esteem lower because of what happened on Thursday, and an inability to tell myself that one bad climb didn't mean all climbs had to be bad) it was a generally unsuccessful session, but fun to spend time with lovely people, and a nice reminder that I shouldn't leave it months until the next climb in future!!

So I look at it positively, even though I was disappointed with myself. However, climbing with muscles soreness from the previous day turns out to be a Bad Idea when you have a long run planned for the following day (today). In fact, with hindsight, I ought to have had a complete rest day yesterday, but with climbing, you have to fit in with other people's schedules as well as your own, and if I'd not gone I'd only have been extending the gap to the next time. So, meh, it's not an easy decision, and - like I say - I do like spending time with Tor and Derry.

This morning, I woke naturally at about 6am. I could hear it was very windy outside, and raining, and - well - cutting a very long story short, I procrastinated all morning and put off my run, til the rain stopped and the sun was out. Poor decision. It was very windy, my quad muscles were sore, the sun was very bright in my non-sunglassesed eyes, I overheated in my light jacket, I hadn't eaten properly for the fact that I'd kept putting it off all morning, and I picked a new route I'd never ran on before that turned out to be packed with pedestrians and a total wind tunnel. My quads started to actually shake after 1 mile of running into a headwind, and I called it a day not long after. Tuns out, looking at the data afterwards, that first mile was a fair bit faster than I've been averaging lately, so it appears I panicked running into such a strong headwind, and pushed harder than I ought - especially considering I had intended to do at least 7 miles today. Sigh. DOMS, plus 'weather', plus a complete lack of confidence in myself, and I gave up without a seconds argument. Ach. Lessons to be learned. I can only improve from here... and I will.

Oh, and re. naturally waking, that's two mornings in a row, and two nights of decent quality full nights of sleep. Lovely! Sometimes, I confuse myself, lol. In myself, I've felt a lot more emotional and contemplative the past 3 or 4 days, yet my sleep has been wonderful - not normally how it works. I've continued to practice visualisation and self-compassion meditations, though, so perhaps that's helping. Outside of my sleep, though, my emotions are currently all over the fecking place! Need to calm it down, and stop getting anxious about things I have no control over. I'm a pretty strong, intelligent woman with my head screwed on sorta-correctly, lol, I just need to remind myself of my strengths more than I focus on the weaknesses. Easy. Right? x

  1. That wind WAS crazy today. In my race I saw people almost come to a halt as they turned into the wind.
